Located on Archdale Street in the heart of Historic Downtown Charleston, The Unitarian Church in Charleston provides one of the city's most atmospheric and acoustically rich settings for the popular Candlelight Concert series.
Originally established in 1772, it is the oldest Unitarian Universalist church in the South. The building’s interior features stunning 19th-century Neo-Gothic architecture, highlighted by intricate fan-vaulted plaster ceilings—modeled after Henry VII’s Chapel at Westminster Abbey—and soaring stained-glass windows.
During the multi-sensory Candlelight performances, the historic sanctuary is illuminated by thousands of flickering, flameless candles. The intimate seating surrounding the performance space creates an up-close experience where audiences can enjoy classical string quartet renditions of everything from Vivaldi and Mozart to modern tributes featuring Taylor Swift, Queen, Adele, and film scores. Tucked behind the church is its famous overgrown, garden-style graveyard along the Gateway Walk, adding a layer of historic Southern charm and ambient mystery to an evening out in Charleston.
